It is with great pleasure that Genesis Football Academy announces the shift to an all-female football academy. The focus on girls' soccer provides the opportunity to build life-long female athletes at a time when women’s pro-sports are growing in Canada and specifically in Toronto.
“My 25-year career coaching has been filled with great personal stories and the majority are from my girls’ teams,” says Founder and Director of Coaching, Steve Jackman. “I love the connection and community that girls’ soccer is able to build. I also know the challenges that adolescent girls face in sport and love the opportunity to use my knowledge to keep girls in sport and build strong women on and off the field.”
The Canadian Women & Sport Rally Report 2024 shows that more girls than ever are participating in sport from ages 6-18, however the drop-out rate continues to grow at a much higher rate than boys after age 16. Two in five girls are motivated to play by fun and enjoyment. One in four stated socializing and one in five appreciated the physical activity. These motivations are important for GFA. Coach Steve and the Academy have taken an approach to coaching that prioritizes the player experience on and off the field. As opposed to a one-size-fits all approach, GFA coaches are experienced and highly trained at catering specifically to the players’ needs.
“The soccer academy has lots of fun and exciting things to do every time you go. The coaches are nice, very creative and help us learn," says Eliana - 2015 player newly acquired by GFA. "My daughter was losing interest in soccer before we started at GFA. She has gained so much confidence, her skills have improved greatly, and she now has a love for the sport," expressed Elisabeth, team manager and parent of Eliana.
This shift in female-focused football will also allow Genesis Football Academy to launch new programming and unveil new partnerships with female-focused organizations. Coming this winter is After School Training and PA Day Training Camps for girls' soccer. These programs will allow female soccer athletes to train outside of their team and experience the power of an all-female football academy. GFA will also be building grassroots programming for girls' soccer in the Spring. Stay tuned for more information including exciting new partners to support the Academy and our players beyond the pitch.
GFA knows that strong female athletes go on to make strong female leaders. The future is female as Genesis Football Academy strives to be a leader in girls' soccer.
